Union Orthotics & Prosthetics Co. Clinician Spotlight: Dave McFarlane, CO, CPED

Union Orthotics & Prosthetics Co. has over 50 clinicians in our 17 locations throughout Greater Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania. Each clinician has a passion for their craft and different specializations that allows each of them to provide the best care for our patients. Periodically we like to highlight one of our clinicians to show our appreciation for their expertise in our field. This allows our patients and staff to get to know these individuals and celebrate what makes them great employees and exceptional practitioners. Presently, we are celebrating Dave McFarlane, CO, CPED.

Dave McFarlane is one of our clinicians who you can normally find in our Harmar office.  He originally was hired as an administrative assistant in 1997. His curiosity while in the field led him to pursue his Certificate in Pedorthics at Oklahoma State shortly after. After a few years, he went to Northwestern University in Chicago where he got his Certification in Orthotics. After 10 years with the company, in 2007, he decided to move to Florida. He later moved back to Pittsburgh and boomeranged back to the company where he has been since 2011. Serving our patients and the Pittsburgh community for over 22 years combined. He is grateful for the time to gain knowledge at different facilities because he was able to experience different models of delivery of O&P care and perfect his craft.

Dave is also looking forward to the continued advances in technology. He believes the prosthetic and orthotic field will migrate to using 3D printing, “I see 3D printing streamlining the manufacture and delivery of orthotics and prosthetics”. In the future, he also hopes to see technology like the G4 being more accessible to all patients.

Dave prides himself in getting to know his patients while providing care. His favorite part of the job is learning about his patients. One of his most recent stories was about a patient who wrestled Hulk Hogan while being a WWE wrestler. He enjoys learning about who the patients are and what they have done with their lives. When asked what he is most proud of, he says, “I think this may be the same for many of us clinicians… when you see that you have made a positive difference in a patient’s life”. He wants patients to leave our office and feel good about the experience they were given. However, he will say his greatest achievement is “convincing my wife to marry me!”  We would like to thank Dave for all of the time and care he puts into our company and into his patients.

Union Orthotics & Prosthetics Co. is a family-owned and operated company with over one hundred years of service. We have always been dedicated to providing the highest quality of patient care with a professional and compassionate approach. Our services and techniques are continuously being upgraded to achieve the highest standard of excellence. Union O & P is excited to be able to highlight Dave McFarlane and the rest of our exceptional staff.
