What is the Pennsylvania Orthotic Prosthetic Society?

Good question! The Pennsylvania Orthotic Prosthetic Society or POPS is an industry group of orthotics, prosthetic, and pedorthic practitioners and manufacturers/suppliers located in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. POPS members – from Philadelphia orthotists to Pittsburgh prosthetists – all work towards promoting Orthotics and Prosthetics services throughout Pennsylvania.

Advocacy

POPS is a leading advocate for access to life-changing prosthetic, orthotic, and pedorthic care for physical activity in Pennsylvania.

The POPS website states:

Movement is medicine and physical activity is a right, not a privilege. But today, many children and adults in Pennsylvania with limb loss, limb difference, and mobility impairment are unable to afford and access life-changing prosthetic, orthotic, and pedorthic care that helps them be physically active due to inadequate insurance coverage.

In Pennsylvania, POPS is working to change this through state legislative action to include access to this medically necessary care.

What is So Every BODY Can Move?

So Every BODY Can Move is at the forefront of the national disability rights movement, creating equitable and life-changing access to prosthetic and orthotic care for physical activity in 28 states by the 2028 Paralympics.

The goal of the Pennsylvania legislation involving So Every BODY Can Move Is:

  • To provide coverage of prosthetic orthotic and pedorthic care in Pennsylvania at a level that is equivalent to the federal Medicare program, also known as "Prosthetic, Orthotic and Pedorthic Parity" and
  • To provide coverage for prosthetic, orthotic and pedorthic care in Pennsylvania for those individuals whom are also physically active.

In 2024, Union Orthotics & Prosthetics Co. partnered with So Every BODY Can Move in the 28×28 Mobility Challenge! Our team moved 847.31 miles, raised a whopping $4,958, and captured the top team fundraising spot - #1 out of 71 teams! We had two Team Members - Katie Jeter and Caroline Calabrese - finish in TOP 10 in a group of 582 individual fundraisers!
