Union O & P Patients Kevin Novess and Ken Weidaw Score with the Mighty Pens Sled Hockey Team
Meet Kevin Novess and Ken Weidaw, two Union Orthotics & Prosthetics Co. amputee patients who are staying active and having fun on the ice with the Mighty Pens Sled Hockey team. These determined gentlemen have found an alternative way to enjoy their love for ice hockey. Sled Hockey is an adaptive ice hockey sport for players who have a physical disability. It was invented in a Swedish rehabilitation center in the early 1960s. With the help of specialized sleds, players are able to glide across the ice with speed and agility, showing that nothing can hold them back.
The Mighty Pens Sled Hockey program is making a positive impact on Kevin and Ken by giving them an outlet for their energy and passion while also fostering friendship and camaraderie with their fellow athletes. The organization aims to provide an inclusive, fun, safe environment for all who wish to participate in sled hockey.
Union O & P is excited to showcase our patients thriving in local organizations, like the Mighty Pens Sled Hockey, around Greater Pittsburgh.
