If your baby has a flat spot or uneven head shape, a cranial remolding helmet can help guide healthy, natural growth. These custom-made helmets are designed to gently reshape your baby’s head while they grow—most often used to treat conditions like plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome). Treatment is safe, effective, and works best during infancy when your baby’s skull is still soft and growing fast.Watch this video on What to Expect at Your First Visit >

Scanning eliminates the casting process required for custom-molded cranial remolding helmet. No eyewear or protection is needed. The scan data is sent to Orthomerica electronically and downloaded to a 5-axis carver for precise fabrication of a cranial remolding orthosis. This non-invasive diagnostic screening tool also includes customized software that allows the orthotist to gather, analyze and quantify clinical outcomes. The software collects surface data on slices through pediatric head shapes and provides comparative maps of head shape, as well as cross-sectional slice comparisons. For the first time, the orthotist has quantitative information that can be used to support positive clinical outcomes for cranial remolding orthoses to physicians, therapists, caregivers, and insurance companies.Union Orthotics & Prosthetics Co. utilizes two scanning technologies, the STARscanner and the SmartSoc. The STARscanner is offered at our main office location. The portable Smartsoc is offered at these locations: Canonsburg, Cranberry, Erie, Indiana, Monroeville, South Park and Titusville.
